Snow King
On Friday, March 23, following a breakfast of
bagels and cream cheese, Summit students
used first hour to check their grades and
complete missing work before boarding a
school bus to Snow King. Once at the resort,
students chose to ski and snowboard, ice
skate, or ride the Exhibition lift to the summit
to view the competitors in the annual
snowmobile hill climb.

Special Olympics Service Learning a Favorite
Summit students and staff attended the Special Olympics
Wyoming Winter Games held at Jackson Hole Mountain
Resort on Wednesday, February 7 and Thursday, February
8. Athletes from all over the state, including Casper,
Sheridan, and Jackson, competed in a variety of events
including slalom, giant slalom, Nordic, and snow shoe
races. Summit students and staff volunteered at the race
courses and as runners to retrieve scores and enter them
into the computer. Most importantly, we were there to
cheer for the competitors and offer encouragement
throughout each race.

Summit Participates in Career Day at JHHS
Thanks to Les Bishop and Jim Rooks, students at Summit High
School had the opportunity to attend Career Day at JHHS on
Wednesday, May 23. Students selected from a variety of careers,
including information management, graphic design, creative dance,
cosmetology, architecture, interior design, criminology, and more.
Students attended three sessions of their choice and heard
presentations from people in the professions, having a chance to
ask questions of each. Students reported that in general, the
morning spent at the high school was useful and interesting.

Summit Reads Happy News
On Friday, February 16, 2007, Joe Williams led community meeting on the topic of happy news. Using several web sources, Joe found and printed news articles with positive spins. Split into groups with assigned recorders and reporters, students were responsible for summarizing the news article they’d been given. First, they listed the who, what, when, why, and how of the article. Next, each group member found a positive word from the article and used it in a sentence. Finally, the group formed their sentences into a poem and presented it to the entire community meeting audience.
